When I was a child my dad had a Mac computer. I was always disappointed that we had a mac computer because there weren’t very many computer games for the Mac compared to Windows operating system. I think there were many more computer games on the Mac back in the eighties possibly. I was not yet born to really be exposed to those games though. I got my first computer that ran Windows ME for myself in the summer of 2001. The specifications of the hardware were that it was a Pentium 4 forty gigahertz processor with 128 megabytes of ram. I did eventually upgrade to Windows XP and found that it was better. It was more stable for burning CDs and just performed overall better. My dad got his own computer to computer because he was always using my which annoyed me. He got a AMD three hundred megahertz or many was three hundred thirty megahertz processor with his computer. What we’re talking about was in the early 2000’s back then Amd processors were significantly cheaper than Intel so if you were on a budget it would be best to go with a Amd processers. When my mom ordered me my own computer it came with the printer and scanner and was three thousand dollars back then. The AMD processors as I said before were significantly cheaper so for some people a Amd computer was all they could afford. I was happy that I had a much faster speed processor then my dad did. I don’t know how much ram my dad had on his computer or his video card but I do know that I had much better hardware. We both developed a stronger passion for computers by having our own computers. I was happy that there were a lot of games that were available on the XP. I know that The Sims was very hot in the early 2000’s. I never really got into StarCraft though. In terms of console gaming, I started with a Sega Genesis then a Dreamcast. I then eventually got an original Xbox I found though I only played video games with friends and enjoyed playing on the computer more. I am happy that I got a computer for myself because I got to learn how to use the computer properly within the operating system and I develop skills to help people with computer problem. I am very generous when it came to helping people with any computer problem. The computers back then were a lot more expensive so doing hardware computer repair or upgrading the computer with more ram was more justified. I did enjoy helping people with bigger problems or even showing them how to do the most basic things. I wasn’t someone who would just watch TV because I was more fascinated with tinkering with the computer. I think some people felt that I was on the computer too much and I lost balance of other things in life like sports. I think like anything else it comes down to balance. It’s good to have a hobby enjoying computer but like anything else’s too much may not be a good thing. When you look at computers in the late 90’s it’s amazing how limited you really were at what you could do. I remember being on a computer 1999 and 2000. This was the scene of GeoCities sites. If you’re too young to know GeoCities sites. It was a free web hosting site where you can make your websites. There is actually quite a bit of diversity at different subjects. My mom for example was able to learn a lot about of surgery that she had to get and what happened when other people got it within GeoCities websites. It is too bad that it doesn’t exist anymore because there may have been websites that people made that could have had helpful information I think is just part of the history of the Internet and computers. Computers are now extremely cheap not just because the methods in production of the technology also because there is more competition. I find that now people using their cell phones or iPads and they don’t need a computer at home. It used to be that people would have a computer at home and do all the things they need to do like pay bills, emails and surf the web. I’m finding that now people just use the phone for these things so they don’t need a computer. It’s getting more and more common for people to not even have a laptop at home because their cell phone is good enough for all the things they need to do. I think this interesting how much things have shifted and now sad to say the people in this generation don’t really know how to use computers that well. They are so used to using their cell phones that they’ve lost the basic skills needed with computers. They approach me they don’t know about deleting things and it going to the recycling bin. They have something that pops up with using a web browser and they don’t know what to do. I think learning these skills is important and anyone can learn to be with computers because anyone can learn in a skill int time. I think there are so many YouTube videos now that could help you if you run into problems with your computer. I find it frustrating that I sent people videos to follow that they could just look at themselves but keep asking me to do the same thing the video shows them how to do. I don’t like people that don’t even bother to go through the video and try to do it themselves. If they get stuck in a particular part, I could try to help them but it frustrates me when people don’t try all to solve their own computer issues at all. I think people can learn a lot about computers by watching videos on how to solve particular problem. I think before they had YouTube videos as guide for computer problems something needed the skills to learn from other people or by a trial and error. We have today some many tutorials of videos for lots of different types of computer issues that there’s really no excuse to not try to resolve the computer issue on your own. I’m glad to share with you some of my history of getting my first computer learning more how to use it. I’m glad that I have skills from experience because I know I can help people with all different computer issues. I think it’s never too late to learn how to use a computer even if you’re much older and stubborn. I don’t see how you could not have access to Internet because we are so dependent on it now.
