I know many will tell you should have a antivirus because you need protection from viruses or trojans. I think in today’s world viruses and trojans don’t exist. I think even malware is much less of a problem then it use to be. With secure boot, better operating system security and web browsers getting updates automatically there is no need to buy a antivirus. I know some antiviruses you buy will focus on ransomware protection and publishing attack protection but most of avoiding malware and scams is common sense. I know some people who download fake antiviruses and other shady software only to get hundreds of malware infections found on Malware Bytes. If they were careful what they install then they probably wouldn’t have malware to begin with. I think having a ad blocker is your best defense because it will block sites that could infect you and block popups that could infect your browser. I know that Microsoft’s built in Defender scores quite well in testing frequently scoring near-perfect results in independent lab tests for malware and is good enough protection for most people. In conclusion, a brought third party antivirus isn’t needed for most people and is just a waste of money. If you really want a free antivirus for personal use I would Antivir would be the way to go. It’s free for personal use and uses less resources then most antiviruses.
